생명과학기술의 급성장에 따른 transhumanism 및 human enhancement 운동에 대한 신학, 종교학적 고찰을 위한 분과가 American Academy of Religion의 한 consultation으로 개설되었다. 그 Steering Committee의 한 위원으로 선임되었다.  그 분과 개설에 대한 설명을 아래와 같다.

“’Transhumanism’ or ‘human enhancement’ refers to an intellectual and cultural movement that advocates the use of a variety of emerging technologies.  The convergence of these technologies may make it possible to take control of human evolution, providing for the enhancement of human mental and physical abilities and the amelioration of aspects of the human condition regarded as undesirable.  The proposed consultation will provide a forum for discussion of the many issues related to transhumanism, without presuming programmatic bias for or against enhancement programs.”
