Heup Young Kim
Heup Young Kim, professor of systematic theology at Kangnam University in South Korea, discusses “A Trialogue of Humility: A New Way of Christian Mission in Asia” in a free public lecture Monday, Oct. 19, at 5 p.m. in Westmont’s Hieronymus Lounge.
Kim, who has published several books about interfaith dialogue and theology of religions, will discuss the encounter between Christianity, Asian religions and science.
Kim earned his master’s of divinity and master’s of theology degrees from Princeton Theological Seminary and a doctorate from the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, Calif. He is a former dean of the College of Humanities and Liberal arts, the Graduate School of Theology, and the University Chapel.
Kim has been a senior fellow at the Center for the Study of World Religions at Harvard University and at the Center for Interdisciplinary Study of Monotheistic Religions at Doshisha University. He has received numerous honors and awards, including the Global Perspectives on Science and Spirituality and a John Templeton Foundation Research grant.
One of his most popular books, “Wang Yang-ming and Karl Barth: A Confucian-Christian Dialogue,” Kim argues that the religious philosophies of Yang-ming and Barth are actually similar views of a common issue.
The lecture is sponsored by the Westmont Religious Studies Department.
